Mercury
Mercury, the second smallest planet, is the closest to the sun. This planet was named after the Greek Gods' messenger. It's diameter is 40% smaller than the Earth's diameter, and 40% larger than Earth's moon's diameter. The average midday temperature on Mercury is 800 degrees Fahrenheit. Mercury's surface resembles lunar terrain. It has virtually no atmosphere, so the sky is always black. On Mercury, the sun is 2x the visual size as it is on Earth.
